4 Unforgettable Long Weekend Escapes in the UK

In the UK, we are lucky enough to get around 8 bank holidays each year that fall directly before or after a weekend. For the team at Hit The Trail, we see that as at least 8 opportunities to plan a short break and get out and experience something new and thrilling!

Looking to make the most of your next long weekend? Skyhook Adventure is a small company that offers some big adventures with expert guides and all the logistics sorted. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, thrill-seeker, or someone seeking peaceful relaxation in stunning surroundings, there’s an adventure waiting for you.

Here are four unforgettable UK adventure getaways, each offering a unique experience that will leave you with lasting memories.

If you're up for a challenge and want to experience the beauty of the UK’s highest peaks, the 3 Peaks in 3 Days adventure is for you. Conquer the famous peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) with a group of like-minded adventurers. This is a physically demanding yet incredibly rewarding experience.

The trip starts and ends in Fort William with a few options for pick up.

Why we like it: Although it’s also possible to do this as the traditional 24-hour challenge which is popular as a charity event, we like the less-rushed approach of this 3-day version. The extra time gives you a chance to stop and appreciate the mountain scenery along the way.

Perfect Gear Match: For this trek, hiking boots and a small, comfortable day pack are key. We reccomend these boots from Hanwag & Dolomite available for male and female you will find them very comftable, tried and tested by our team.

and these packs from Fjällraven & Osprey are perfect for day hikes where you dont need to carry to much equipment.

2) Surf, Yoga & Wild Camp Retreat (Cornwall)

When the beach is calling but you don't have time (or funds) for an island escape, Cornwall is the place to be! Combine surfing, yoga, and camping in one of the UK’s most serene coastal spots.

The Surf, Yoga & Wild Camp adventure offers the perfect balance of physical activity and relaxation. The glamping site is on the luxurious side and a great place to meet new friends and hang out between sessions.

Why we like it: This is ideal for anyone who's wanted to give yoga or surfing a go but is not sure where to start. The lessons are beginner-friendly and the instructors are there to help you boost your confidence and skills. Not a fan of yoga? No problem, you also have the option for a 4-day surf camp  or, for the adventurous,  surf and coasteering package.

Perfect Gear Match: For a coastal wild camping trip like this, all the camping equipment is provided so all you need is your personal gear. Don't forget to pack your water bottle

to stay hydrated and a warm neck gaiter

and hat

as it can be chilly in the evenings.

3) Lake District Weekend Adventure

The Lake District Weekend Adventure is a short and sweet escape for those who love watersports and have an adventurous spirit. The itinerary is a combination of guided activities like gorge walking, paddleboarding, canoeing and more!

Why we like it: Enquiries are welcome for private groups. This makes it the perfect opportunity for a unique corporate escape or for an unforgettable weekend with the family.

Perfect Gear Match: For this trip, you need to pack your own sleeping bag. We recommend the Fjällräven Akisko Summer and the Keb Two Season.

You need to be prepared to get wet on this one, a dry bag

is also a handy piece of gear to keep personal belongings safe.

4) Kayak the Jurassic Coast (Dorset)

Explore the stunning Jurassic Coast by kayak and experience history, geology, and nature all in one. Kayaking along this UNESCO World Heritage site offers an up-close view of striking cliffs, fossil-rich beaches and clear waters.

Kayaking gear is provided and certified guides lead the excursions over 3 days. Lunch and breakfasts are also included and you’ll get to enjoy a meal at local restaurants in the evenings, a great chance to chat about the day's events!

Why we like it: No experience is necessary for this trip and the sit-on-top kayaks are nice and stable (you do need to be able to swim though).  This is your chance to explore  and appreciate the UK’s unique and beautiful coast.

Perfect Gear Match: You’ll need a brimmed sun hat to protect your face during the day.

A warm fleece jacket is also essential for cool evenings around camp.

Conclusion

Long weekends are the perfect time to step outside your routine and embark on an unforgettable adventure. Whether you’re climbing peaks, surfing and camping on the coast, exploring the Lake District, or kayaking along ancient cliffs, each of these trips offers an exciting way to connect with nature.

Solo travellers, friends, couples and family members are all welcome!
