Dirt, oils and residues can affect the performance of technical fabrics, while repeated use and washing can gradually reduce the durable water-repellent finish, or DWR, that helps water bead and run from the outside of the fabric.

1. Clean your equipment
Start with a specialist cleaner designed for the material you're treating.
For waterproof jackets and technical clothing, Grangers Performance Wash is designed to remove dirt while helping to preserve the garment's existing water-repellent finish.

2. Check the water repellency
Once your garment is clean, check how water behaves on the outer fabric.
If water still beads and rolls away, the existing DWR may still be doing its job.
If the fabric begins to absorb water and 'wet out', it may be time to reproof.

3. Restore the protection
Grangers offers both wash-in and spray-on waterproofing treatments.
A wash-in proofer provides an even treatment across the garment, while a spray-on treatment can be particularly useful when you want to concentrate protection on high-wear areas such as shoulders and areas underneath backpack straps.

It can be applied directly to freshly cleaned, damp clothing, with extra attention given to areas that experience more abrasion.
Clothing Repel
For an all-over treatment, Clothing Repel is a wash-in waterproofing treatment designed to restore durable water repellency while maintaining breathability.

It's particularly useful when you want to reproof an entire garment rather than concentrating treatment on specific areas.

The formulation also provides conditioning for suitable leather, suede and nubuck footwear.
Waterproofing Wax & G-WAX
For suitable leather footwear, Grangers waterproofing waxes provide another way to protect and condition the material.
Always check the manufacturer's care instructions before applying wax or other treatments, as different footwear constructions and finishes require different approaches.
Looking After Down Jackets
& Sleeping Bags
Down is an exceptional natural insulation material, but it needs the right care.

Using ordinary laundry detergent on a down jacket or sleeping bag can leave residues that affect the performance of the insulation. Washing also needs to be followed by careful drying to restore the loft of the down.
