When you get the chance to test outdoor gear in one of the UK's most beautiful national parks, you don't need much convincing.

Recently, I headed up to the Lake District for a solo adventure. The plan was simple: spend some time on the water, explore a few quieter corners of the park and, most importantly, put the Fjällräven Abisko View 2 through a proper field test.

There's only so much you can learn about a tent from specifications and showroom displays. The real test comes when you're carrying it, pitching it, sleeping in it and waking up to whatever the weather decides to throw your way.

Thankfully, the Lake District provided the perfect testing ground.

A Few Days of Adventure

One of the best things about travelling solo is the freedom to move at your own pace. No schedules, no plans that need sticking to and no rush to be anywhere.

After arriving in the Lakes, I spent some time exploring before heading out on the paddleboard. Conditions couldn't have been much better. The water was calm, the surrounding fells were reflected across the lake and for a few hours it felt like I had the entire place to myself.

Moments like that are exactly why I love getting outdoors.

As the evening drew closer, it was time to find a spot for the night and get my shelter set up.

First Impressions of the Abisko View 2

The Fjällräven Abisko View 2 immediately stands out from many of the lightweight backpacking tents currently on the market.

Rather than focusing solely on reducing weight, Fjällräven has clearly designed this tent around liveability.

Pitching was straightforward and intuitive, even after a full day outdoors, and the overall build quality feels exactly what you would expect from a premium Fjällräven shelter. Everything from the materials to the hardware feels robust and well thought out.

What surprised me most was the amount of usable space inside.

For a lightweight two-person tent, it feels incredibly spacious, offering plenty of headroom and enough room to comfortably organise gear without constantly fighting for space.

The Feature That Really Stands Out

If there's one feature that defines the Abisko View 2, it's ventilation.

The tent's design allows large sections to be opened up, creating excellent airflow throughout the shelter. During this trip, that made a noticeable difference to overall comfort and helped keep condensation to a minimum overnight.

It's also where the tent gets its name.

Open everything up and you're rewarded with fantastic views of your surroundings.

Many tents simply provide a place to sleep, the Abisko View 2 feels much more connected to the environment around you.

How Did It Perform Overnight?

Lake District weather always has the potential to keep you on your toes, even when the forecast looks promising.

Fortunately, for me the conditions were incredible throughout my stay, and overnight with both sides of the Abisko View 2 open, I slept perfectly .

The balance between weather protection and ventilation is particularly impressive. Often lightweight tents excel at one or the other, but the Abisko View 2 manages to strike a very good middle ground.

Is the Abisko View 2 Worth It?

For backpackers, bikepackers, wild campers and anyone looking for a lightweight shelter that prioritises comfort as much as performance, the Abisko View 2 is certainly worth considering.

The spacious interior, excellent ventilation and premium construction help it stand apart from many competitors in the lightweight tent category.

While there are lighter options available, few offer the same level of comfort and connection to the outdoors.

After spending a night with it in the Lake District, it's easy to see why this tent is becoming a popular choice among outdoor enthusiasts looking for a premium backpacking shelter.

Watch My Full Video Review

A single night outdoors can tell you a lot about a tent, but sometimes it's easier to show than explain.

I've put together a full video review of the Fjällräven Abisko View 2 where I take a closer look at the design, setup process, interior space, ventilation and my overall thoughts after using it in the Lake District.

If you're considering the tent for your own adventures, the video should give you a much better feel for how it performs in the real world.

Final Thoughts

One of the things I enjoy most about running Hit The Trail is having the opportunity to get out and properly test the gear we stock. There's no substitute for real-world experience, especially when it comes to equipment designed for life outdoors.

This trip to the Lake District was a perfect example. A few days spent paddleboarding, exploring the fells and sleeping under canvas provided exactly the sort of environment needed to see what the Fjällräven Abisko View 2 is really capable of.

For me, the standout feature remains the incredible sense of openness the tent offers. Combined with excellent ventilation, generous living space and the premium quality Fjällräven is known for, it creates a shelter that's as enjoyable to spend time in as it is practical.

The Lake District delivered the adventure, and the Abisko View 2 certainly delivered the accommodation.

If you're looking for a lightweight tent that doesn't compromise on comfort, this is one that's well worth adding to your shortlist.
